Precision Machined Large Diameter Cast Iron Bearing Housings
A customer in the raw material processing industry contracted Davis Machine & Fabrication to fabricate the custom bearing housings highlighted here. The proposed parts were large and involved, the type of manufacturing we at Davis excel in. Employing our advanced in-house machinery including 5-Axis CNC horizontal machining centers and a vertical boring mill, cast iron was precision machined to achieve the specified configuration, holding a tight ± 0.001" tolerance throughout. Machined surfaces met a 125 micro finish or better. Post machining deburring was carried out to remove unwanted machining particles, and the part was painted with an exterior 2 part painting process. Accuracy was maintained by taking precision measurements throughout the machining process.
Dimensions of the completed unit were 45" in length, 35" in width, 30" in height, and weighed 2,800 lbs. 8 assembled units were finished after a 3 to 5 week turnaround time and shipped to the customer.
